We are pleased to announce that New York City’s Democratic City Comptroller Scott Stringer has endorsed Alex Brower for Milwaukee City Comptroller. Local comptrollers are poised to make change, and Scott is an example of a comptroller who uses the power of the office to help regular people. We’re going to do the same here in Milwaukee.
Our progressive campaign is pleased to announce that Sunrise Milwaukee, the local hub of Sunrise Movement, has decided to endorse our campaign. Sunrise is a movement of young people fighting to stop the climate crisis.
Alex Brower is the only candidate for City Comptroller who is standing up for climate justice, and he is proud to accept Sunrise Movement‘s local endorsement.
From Sunrise’s website:
“We’re building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people.”
We are pleased to announce that Olivia Warren, a DSA member and organizer, has joined the campaign as our full-time field director. Olivia has worked in electoral politics since 2014, when she first interned on the Rob Zerban campaign for Congress. Most recently, Olivia served as the Milwaukee Regional Field Director for Progressive Takeover.
Olivia is an active organizer and has worked on projects like establishing Milwaukee DSA’s electoral working group, and providing clinic escorts for Affiliated Medical Services, Wisconsin’s only independent abortion clinic. We’re excited to have someone with Olivia’s experience on the campaign, and look forward to fighting together for a more just and equitable Milwaukee.
We are proud to announce that Pastor Dana Kelley has joined the campaign’s leadership team as our African American Outreach Director. Pastor Kelley is active in her church, in the community, and the movement for a Green New Deal here in Milwaukee. We are excited to have Pastor Kelley on the campaign, and look forward to fighting together for accountability, economic democracy, and climate justice here in Milwaukee.
Alex has been interviewed for Jacobin by Milwaukee DSA’s Mike McCarthy. In the interview, Alex talks about how he will use the office to fight for transformative change at city hall. Alex also talks about the challenges faced by our progressive, anti-establishment campaign, and how we will work to overcome those challenges by turning out new voters and expanding the electorate.
Alex has been featured in the August 2019 issue of Riverwest Currents. In the column, Alex talks about why we need to replace WE Energies with a municipal utility, and explains exactly how Milwaukee can use Chapter 197 to purchase the utility infrastructure from WE Energies. You can download the full issue here, where you will find Alex’s column on page 7.
We’re excited to announce that the Milwaukee chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has endorsed Alex for Milwaukee City Comptroller. Nationally, membership in the DSA has exploded over the past few years, and since 2016, DSA members like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have won victories, both inside and outside electoral politics, all across the country.
Here in Milwaukee, DSA has lead the fight to remove lead pipes which contaminate our water, and DSA organizers have been heavily involved in efforts the efforts to unionize graduate workers and non-tenure-track faculty at Marquette University. We are proud to have the endorsement of Milwaukee DSA, and look forward to working together as we take on the establishment and fight for a more just and equitable Milwaukee.
